Comment and Analysis
 War in Syria: The
Ominous Attack on Idlib
Having emptied dozens of cities of their
hundreds of thousands of inhabitants across the country, the
Syrian regime, in the continuing waging of war against its own
people, has set its sights on Idlib.

Today, Syria regime forces backed by Russia and Iran have
besieged Idlib. Judging from what we have so far witnessed in
places such as Douma, Ghouta and Aleppo, the foreboding of
bloodbath and casualties can only send shrills down one’s spine.

In April 2017, Idlib was in the news when the regime launched a
chemical weapons attack the claimed scores of lives. Who can
forget the footage of writhing and gasping young children of
Khan Shaykhun neighbourhood, gripped in convulsions, due to the
effects of a deadly nerve agent?

International relief agencies in the region are bracing for the
worst as an attack on Idlib, whose prelude with Russian-led
airstrikes, is already underway. A UN health agency projects
that at least 700,000 will be uprooted from their homes in the
beleagured governorate.

The regime’s template of warfare characterised by block-by-block
pounding and levelling of buildings and homes, dropping of
barrel bombs and wanton raids on densely populated towns, can
only spell disaster for the swollen population of Idlib, said to
have doubled to over 3 million.

Idlib has been a refuge of Syrians who were led, via arranged
safe passages, out of many towns and cities that the regime
besieged in order to purge of rebel fighters.

This is yet another chapter in the Syria regime’s sadistic
policy of emptying cities of their inhabitants with an apparent
aim of remaking Syria in a new mould, bereft of her rich
heritage and historic character. Unlike in places such as
Aleppo, however, those in Idlib may not have any other place to
run. This can only mean one thing: a humanitarian crisis of epic
proportions could be in the making.

Clearly, Bashar Assad has been emboldened to continue the
violations of any conventions, not only due to Russia’s support,
but also by Trump Administration’s policy stance.

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the UN, is on record to have
said that America’s “priority is no longer to sit and focus on
getting Assad out.”

We deplore such callous and insensitive power games and policies
that have allowed this war to be sustained for so long, in total
disregard of the suffering of the elderly, women and children,
as Syria stands in utter ruins.

It is a sad world where such a despicable regime and its allies
can play its hand in war crimes with impunity, while the rest of
humanity stands forlorn. Let us remember the people of Idlib and
indeed the whole of Syria, in these moments that brook
despondency and say: Sufficient is the Almighty as the
Disposer of our affairs.

We pray to the Almighty to ease the pain, end the suffering of
the Ummah in Syria. May He bring a new dawn for the children of
Syria, where they will wake up to playful runs in the
recreational parks and not traumatically dash for cover under
bomb shelters, only to inhale debilitating fumes of chemical gas
agents.

May the people of Syria suffer indignity no more. Aameen.

Sermon of the Week
Salah –
Obligatory Prayers (Part IV)

• Abu Umamah radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “He who recites Ayatul Kursi
after every obligatory Salah, nothing but death restrains him
from entering Paradise.” In another narration: “Qul hu wallahu
Ahad is to be recited after Ayatul Kursi.” (Tabarani , Majma’uz-
Zawaa-id)

• Hasan ibn ‘Ali radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “He who recites Ayatul Kursi
after obligatory Salah, is in the protection of Allah till the
next Salah.” (Tabarani , Majma’uz-Zawaid)

• Abu Ayyub radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that whenever I offered
Salah behind Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, I heard
him saying this Du‘a after completing his Salah: “O Allah!
Forgive all my mistakes and sins. O Allah! Uplift me, and
correct my shortcomings, and guide me towards good deeds and
excellent manners; no one except You can guide towards good, nor
turn away from evil.” (Tabarani, Majma’uz-Zawaid)

• Abu Musa radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “He who offers the Salah of
two cool times (of the day), enters Paradise.” (Bukhari)

• Ruwaibah radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates: I heard Rasullullah
Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam saying: “Undoubtedly he will not
enter Hell-Fire, who has offered Salah before the rising of the
sun, and before its setting; that is Fajr and ‘Asr.” (Muslim)

• Abu Dhar Radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “Whoever after Fajr Salah,
while maintaining the posture of sitting in Salah and before
talking with anyone, says ten times: La ilaaha illallahu wahdahu
laa sharika lahu, lahul mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyi wayumeetu,
wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay in qadeer (There is none is worthy of
worship but Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, His is the
Kingdom, for Him is all the Praise, He alone gives life, and He
alone gives death, and He has power over everything). Then, ten
virtues are recorded for him, and ten sins are erased, and his
ranks are raised by ten degrees, and he is protected from every
undesirable and unpleasant thing and also from Shaytaan, and
that day he will not be taken to account for any sin except
polytheism.” It is also narrated that every time he says this
phrase, he receives a reward of freeing a slave. On saying these
words after ‘Asr he gets the reward for the whole night as he
gets the reward for the whole day on saying them after Fajr.
(Tirmidhi)

• Jundub Al Qasri radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: “He who offers the Fajr Salah,
is indeed in the Protection of Allah (so do not trouble those
who are under Allah’s Protection); for you will be answerable to
Allah for violating this protection; because undoubtedly, if He
takes anyone to account for violating this protection, He will
catch him and fling him headlong on his face into the
Hell-Fire.” (Muslim)

• Muslim ibn Harith At-tamimiyi radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that
Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam told him secretly: “When
you complete the Maghrib Salah, then recite seven times this
Du’a: Allahumma ajirna minan naar (O Allah! Protect me from the
Fire). After saying this if you happen to die the same night,
you will be protected from the Fire. When you have offered your
Fajr Salah repeat the same. For undoubtedly, if you happen to
die the same day, you will be protected from the Fire.” (Abu
Dawud)

• Umm Farwah radhiyallahu ‘anha narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam was asked: “Which is the best of the
good deeds?” He said: “To offer Salah at the beginning of its
prescribed time.” (Abu Dawud).

• ‘Ali radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasullullah Sallallahu
‘alaihi wasallam said: O People of the Qur’an! Offer Witr Salah,
for verily Allah is Witr, and He loves the Witr. (Abu Dawud)

• Kharijah Ibn Hudhafah radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that one day
Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam came to us and said:
Allah has granted you an additional Salah, which is better for
you than red camels; this Salah is Al-Witr. Allah has appointed
its time between ‘Isha Salah and the break of dawn. (Abu Dawud)

• Abu Darda radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that my friend,
Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, enjoined me three
things: To fast three days every month, to offer the Witr Salah
before sleep, and to offer two Rak ‘at Sunnah of Fajr.
(Tabarani, Majma’uz-Zawaid)

• Ibn ‘Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhuma narrates that Rasullullah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said: There is no (perfect) Iman for
one who has no trustworthiness, and there is no Salah for one
who has no Wudu, and there is no Deen for one who has no Salah.
The status of Salah in Deen is like the status of the head in a
body. (Tabarani, Targhib)

• Jabir Ibn Abdullah radhiyallahu ‘anhuma narrates: I heard
Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam saying: Between man and
(his entering into) polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment
of Salah. (Muslim)

• Ibn ‘Abbas radhiyallahu ‘anhuma narrates that Rasullullah
Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said: He who abandons Salah shall
meet Allah in a state that Allah will be very angry with him.
(Bazzar, Tabarani, Majma’uz-Zawaid)

• Naufal ibn Mu’awiya radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Nabi
Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said: “The person who missed even
one Salah is as though he has been deprived of his entire family
and wealth.” (Ibn Hibban)

• ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn ‘Aas radhiyallahu ‘anhu narrates from
his father, who heard from his grandfather radhiyallahu ‘anhuma,
who narrated that Rasullullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said:
“Command your children when they are seven years old, to perform
Salah; and beat them for not observing it when they are ten
years old. And at this age separate their beds (i.e. do not let
brothers and sisters sleep together).” (Abu Dawud)

Words of Wisdom
Hadith of the Week
Abdullah ibn Amr Radhi-Allahu anhu reported:
I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alayhi
wasallam, when the sun was rising. The Prophet Sallallahu alayhi
wasallam said:

“Allah will bring people on the Day of Resurrection whose light
will be like the light of the sun.”

Abu Bakr Radhi-Allahu anhu said, “Are we among them, O Messenger
of Allah?” The Prophet said, “No, but among you is much
goodness. Rather, they are the poor emigrants from different
regions in the land.” Then the Prophet said three times,
“Blessed are the strangers.”

It was said, “Who are the strangers, O Messenger of Allah?” The
Prophet said, “They are righteous people among many evil people
who disobey them more often than they obey them.”
(Musnad Ahmad)

Quote of the Week
“The believer is the best of the people in
good deeds but has the strongest apprehension. If he were to
spend a mountain of his wealth in charity, he would not be sure
of the reward until he sees it. He does not increase in piety
and righteousness unless he increases in fear. The hypocrite
says: There are many people, so I will be forgiven and I will
not be harmed. So he commits evil deeds and still has hope in
Allah.”
(Hasan Al-Basri)
Saying of the Week

who do not kindle fire for themselves.
