On the Passing of Mr Ahmed Kathrada: Funeral Arrangements
(For Immediate Release)
On this occasion of the passing of another icon of the liberation struggle, Mr. Ahmed Kathrada, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa conveys heartfelt condolence to his family. From the Almighty we come and to Him we are all destined to return.
Meanwhile, according to a release from the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, a memorial ceremony is set to precede the funeral service which will be according to Muslim final rites. This will take place on Wednesday, 29 March 2017 at the West Park Cemetery, Beyers Naude Drive & West Park Road, Johannesburg from 10:00am. The funeral procession will depart from Masjidul Furqaan, 2nd Avenue, Houghton at 9am to the West Park Cemetery.
The Janazah Salaah, as the Islamic funeral prayer is known, consists of the Imaam leading the congregation behind him. The Imaam proclaims aloud, four times, the greatness of the Almighty [the Takbir]. Silent supplications are observed in the intervals of the four proclamations, by each one of the congregants taking part in the prayer. Each of these supplications involves praising the Almighty Allah, invoking blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and prayers for forgiveness and goodness for the deceased.
The Janazah Salaah for the Late Ahmed Kathrada will be conducted at 11:30am at the West Park Cemetery. This prayer is immediately followed by interment of the shrouded remains of the deceased, preferably by close family members.
We ask the Almighty to admit the soul of the deceased to His Mercy and also console the hearts of family, associates and friends of Uncle Kathy.
